


This park forms part of the Bolivian Wetlands and is located North-West from Santa Cruz, on the border with Brazil. It has a total surface of 706,000 hectares and shelters a huge variety of biological species, which are spread through different and independent ecological systems.
Located towards the South of Santa Cruz and with a total surface of 3.441.115 hectares (34.411 km2), this is the only protected area which is specifically designed to preserve the South American Chaco. The National Park Kaa-Iya includes most of the Ecological Systems of the region.
This park is a sanctuary for various ecological systems. It is located towards the West of Santa Cruz and it has a total surface of 637.600 hectares. It has a topography filled by mountains, with several valleys and deep canyons. The river has several springs and water falls as well.
This park is located in the area that has the most humid soil, which is immensely vast and very significant to the rest of the world. Towards the Southeast there is the Otuquis Park, which belongs to the ecosystem “Gran Complejo Pantanal” (Great Wetlands Complex), which is next to Brazil and Paraguay. Without a doubt, the Bolivian side of this park has been kept better than the other two.
This botanical, zoological and archaeological park is an important reserve. It is located towards the Southeast of the Department and at about 17 kilometers of the city. It has a total extension of 14.000 hectares. It has also clear formations from the quaternary period, which include alluvial and residual deposits which form dunes formed by erosion over the sediments of sand.
The zone has botanical, zoological and archaeological reserves, which help to prevent the aeolian erosion of the land. There is still the impending risk to the park due to weather changes and the constant growth of the city.
This natural attraction is located towards the Northeast. This area is dominated by the basins of the White River and the Black River. The areas of vegetation include the semi-deciduos (dry) forest, and the sub-humid forest in the lowlands, the Magdalena Wetlands and the Cerrado Sabana (Tundra).
The Arenal Park is five blocks away from the main square, where a mural of the local painter Lorgio Vaca is exhibited. It shows historical moments of the city.
Santa Cruz is characterized by a diverse natural wealth and one fine example of the area is the Botanical Garden, located 5 Km from the city on the road to Cotoca.
They are located in the west sector of the capital, at the end of the Roca Coronado Avenue. Here visitors can admire the beautiful landscape. Typical plates of the region and delicious morsels are served in the cabins. The Piraí River is the favorite place for the local people in the hot days of summer during which temperature rises up to 40º C.
A place that should be visited in Santa Cruz is the Municipal Zoo, one of the most complete zoos of this part of the continent, with a variety of typical fauna of the region.
