Famous Dishes in Potosi

Cazuela: This favorite dish is basically a peanut soup, accompanied by potatoes, meat and fish, plus rice and noodles.

Ají de Pataskha (Spicy Pataskha): This dish is made with “mote” or peeled corn, seasoned with Aji (Aji: Bolivian spicy condiment, very hot) and accompanied with pieces of pork meat.

Chambergos: This dessert is basically a ring-shaped pastry made of flour and decorated with brown sugar.

Museums in Potosi

Santa Teresa

This museum has several pieces from the Colonial and Republican periods, most of the pieces have religious motives. The convent itself has a clear look and appearance that dates back to the time of the Viceroy, this construction has been open to the public as a museum since 1978.

San Francisco

This museum presents important collections of religious art from the time of the Colony and the Republic. There are also several antique outfits and objects that were used in the liturgy. A part of the Franciscan Convent started to function as a repository on September 19. 1979.

National of the House of the Coins

The National Museum "Casa de la Moneda" is the placed where coins were minted, and it was constructed during the XVIII century by the Spanish Crown. It was then changed into a national repository in 1943. In the interior of this magnificent construction there are historical objects of incalculable value, which date back to the time of the Colony and the early years of the Republic, aside from impressing machinery used to mint coins.

North Potosi

This is a cultural center, which specializes on the construction and transmission of Bolivia's original culture and of the half-breed, new culture of the region. This museum contains elements from the Quechua culture. including the "charango" (Small guitar of 12 strings invented in Bolivia) and fabrics of an array of colors, among many other things.
