


Vinto is a town located at five kilometers from the city itself. This is the nation’s most important industrial center. Vinto has several smelting furnaces used to purify argentiferous metals (Metals that contain variable amounts of silver, such as tin, antimony, silver and wolfram).
“Sepulturas” (Tombs) is a place where the production extracted from the mines of Oruro is processed before sending it to the exportation ports.
Towards the end of the XVI century; a main church was constructed, currently it sits above a series of lagoons which present a perfect religious scenery.
Calacala is a town which was built at about 21 kilometers from Oruro, it sits in the middle of a Lithic structure, which is quite impressive at first glance and it forms a singular nucleus of mountains, most of which have several water springs.
There is also a great deal of rupestrian art in the natural caves of Quellcata and also there is an impressive church constructed in homage to “Señor de los Milagros” (Lord of the Miracles), both of these are major attractions of Calacala, which is constantly visited by national and foreign tourists.
With colors that vary between red, black and white, the samples of rupestrian art of Calacala reflect designs that resemble Camelidae species painted amid rocky formations. These are primitive expressions located in rocky cliffs, this area is known as Quelcata.
Similar samples can be seen in the towns of Yareque and Poopo, the second one is also known as “Inca Pinta”.
Located Southwest from Oruro, Curahuara de Carangas was built over the flat terrain of the Altiplano (High Plateau) while following a typical architectural style from the time of the colony. Curahuara was also known, during the time of the colony, as “Ruta de la Plata” (The Silver Route), and it was the only way to have access to the Pacific Ocean.
This place is ideal for archaeological research, mostly because of the presence of the historical importance and the presence of Domain Centers of the Aymara, as well as the “Chullpares” and the clusters of homes located all around the main town. CCurrent data has revealed the actual number of inhabitants prior to the colonization was quite significant.
The church, which was constructed towards the end of the XVI century, right in the middle of the town, has a portal which is completely covered with murals and caissoned images all of this art has a predominant religious-biblical motive. Here we can also find an archaeological deposit that contains several arrows and spears, most of which are in a very primitive condition, it is believed that they were probably used by the first inhabitants of the region
At approximately 20 kilometers from the town of Turco, there are pre-historic ruins that could be seen from a distance, this ruins are known as “Cuidad de Piedra” (City of Stone). Here we can find stones of varying sizes and shapes that form the a very beautiful city, there are also caverns which have been classified as semi-troglodyte and of great particularity.
