If you want to take a taxi, keep in mind that the vehicles are not of yellow color and that they do not have taximeters, so you have to agree about the price with the drivers before boarding the car. You should consult about the usual prices with a trustable person (in the hotel or in your travel agency) to avoid being cheated.
Now then, if you want it easier, contact the radio taxi companies. You will pay a little more, but the cost is justified as the service is safer.
The city counts, also, with a service of collective buses and a great number of rural vans that cover certain routes. Ticket prices are not very high, although trips usually last more than it is needed and, it is worthwhile to remark that comfort is not the main quality of these services.
For trips far from the city, the most appropriate thing to do is to contact a travel agency, that would offer you a series of alternatives to discover the beauties of La Paz.
