La Paz Location

The Department of La Paz has a total extension of 133.985 km2 and it is located towards the Northwest of Bolivia. Towards the North there is Pando; towards the South Oruro; towards the East Beni and Cochabamba; and towards the West the Republics of Peru and Chile.

The capital is the city of La Paz, which is also the seat of the National Government (3.649 meters above the sea level). It is located between 16°30'00" of latitude South and 68°08'00" longitude West Greenwich Meridian. The Department of La Paz as approximately 2.029.471 inhabitants (2001 Census). It is divided into 20 provinces and 272 cantons.
